Maria Loi is following in the footsteps of generations of great chefs and cooks before her who created the healthiest diet in the world, the Mediterranean diet, based on Ancient Greek wisdom and thought. In Greece she became a household name to millions who used her dozens of cookbooks and nutritional advice to live happier, healthier lives.
The pinnacle of her career as an author was being selected to write the official cookbook for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, which was based on a two-thousand year old tradition and from which recipes were created for thousands of athletes and guests. .
Maria brought her wisdom to America six and half years ago, when she opened Loi, and continues to operate her namesake restaurant, Loi Estiatorio, in New York City. She’s cooked on numerous television shows, charitable events, chef panels and was invited to prepare a meal for President Barack Obama and 250 of his honored guests at the White House in 2012. Maria launched a line of healthy dips and spreads with Whole Foods, as well as a line of pasta based on ancient grains from her homeland. Her latest book, The Greek Diet (HarperCollins) is grounded in the Greek Mediterranean lifestyle that Maria has championed for decades.
